SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 893
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Martha L. Valencia, a leading businesswoman and
philanthropist from McAllen; and
WHEREAS, Martha Valencia owns and operates several
successful businesses which have focused on the treatment of the
elderly, physically impaired, and medically underserved
populations of South Texas in Webb, Zapata, Starr, Hildago,
Willacy, and Cameron Counties; and
WHEREAS, One of her businesses, AmeriCare Nursing Services,
has been solely owned and managed by Martha Valencia for the past
16 years, and its staff members have served over 12,000 patients
and made over 632,480 visits to those patients' homes; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding businesswoman employs over 250
people from South Texas; she has paid her employees more than
$57,000,000 during the time her businesses have been in operation
and has made a tremendous contribution to the economy of South
Texas; and
WHEREAS, Martha Valencia has participated in and contributed
to numerous nonprofit efforts in South Texas, including the
International Museum of Art and Science, the South Texas Opera
Association, the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, the American Cancer Society, the
American Diabetes Association, the Boy Scouts, the food bank, and
multiple organizations that treat abused children, and she has
made numerous donations of durable medical equipment to patients
in the Rio Grande Valley and in Mexico; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Martha L. Valencia on her
outstanding accomplishments and her many contributions to the
well-being of the citizens of South Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
