SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9 In Memory of Sharon Sternes WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of DeSoto in mourning the loss of Sharon Sternes, who died January 7, 2011; and WHEREAS, Sharon Sternes was an exemplary citizen whose commitment to public education has served as an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of knowing her; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Sternes was a graduate of Texas Tech University and went on to earn a master's degree from Texas Woman's University; she was president of the board of trustees of the DeSoto Independent School District and had served on the board since 2002; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to excellence in education for all children, Mrs. Sternes was a life member of the Parent Teacher Association and was a Certified Family Life Educator; she received numerous awards over the course of her career, including the President's Award from the Society of Government Meeting Professionals and the Community Service Award from the Concerned DeSoto Citizens; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who shared in her life; and WHEREAS, She was married to the late Kenneth Sternes and raised two sons, Rainey and Ryan; a devoted wife and mother, she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Sharon Sternes; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sharon Sternes.
