SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 902 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize May 4, 2011, as United Technologies Corporation Legislative Day; and WHEREAS, United Technologies Corporation is a diversified company that provides a broad range of high-technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries; and WHEREAS, The company was built by people who were pioneers in their fields of work; these innovative individuals include Willis Carrier, who developed modern air-conditioning; Walter Kidde, who pioneered fire detection and extinguishing technologies; and Elisha Graves Otis, inventor of the safety elevator; these and other inventors, including several giants in the aerospace industry, left a legacy of innovation that the company upholds to this day; and WHEREAS, The company's businesses include Carrier heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration; Hamilton Sundstrand aerospace and industrial products; Otis elevators and escalators; Pratt and Whitney engines; and Sikorsky helicopters; and WHEREAS, Of the corporation's more than 205,000 employees, approximately 3,800 are in Texas; the company has purchased more than $790 million worth of products and services from over 3,200 Texas companies and provided over $300,000 for Texas charitable causes; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend United Technologies Corporation on its role in the advancement of technology in a broad range of businesses and its commitment to excellence; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of United Technologies Corporation.
