SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 907 WHEREAS, Kingwood Park High School is hosting a basketball game on May 5, 2011, to raise awareness about helmet safety and to support the recovery of Kingwood resident Thomas Joseph Stanton II; and WHEREAS, The son of Dr. Robert Stanton and Terri Stanton, Joseph Stanton attended Kingwood Park High and was a member of the swimming and football teams; on June 3, 2010, he suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was skateboarding without a helmet; although he survived, he faces a long and difficult recovery; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton's family members and friends have created the Team Joseph Stanton II Trust to raise funds for his care and to highlight the importance of wearing a helmet during such activities as skateboarding and bicycling; and WHEREAS, The charity basketball game on May 5 will include the superintendent of the Humble Independent School District, members of the school board, State Representative Dan Huberty, and other civic leaders, with the proceeds going to support the work of the TJS Trust; and WHEREAS, This event provides a meaningful reminder that wearing helmets saves lives while also offering much-needed assistance to a member of the Kingwood community, and this admirable initiative is indeed deserving of support; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby recognize May 5, 2011, as Helmet Safety Day and extend to Joseph Stanton and his family sincere best wishes for his full recovery; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Stanton family as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
