SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 927
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Jerry Boatner, who is retiring as mayor after 30 years
of outstanding service to the citizens of Mount Pleasant; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Boatner began his long and distinguished
career in public service in 1973 when he started his first term on
the city council; he became mayor in 1983 and served through 1991
and then returned to the office in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Under his exceptional leadership, the city has
made many positive improvements, including the highway loop
project, a new water treatment plant, a new airport, and extensive
infrastructure improvements; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, the City of Mount Pleasant won
awards for city-county cooperation and Airport of the Year, and
was given the Municipal Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal
League; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Boatner has been active in numerous community
organizations; he is a member of the executive board of the
Ark-Tex Council of Governments and has served as president of the
Mount Pleasant Industrial Foundation, the Mount Pleasant Kiwanis
Club, and the Titus County Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Boatner has had a profound effect on the
growth and prosperity of Mount Pleasant, and he is truly
deserving of recognition for his many achievements as mayor; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Jerry Boatner on his exceptional
service to the people of Mount Pleasant as council member and
mayor and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all
his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
