                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 983
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi on the occasion of
 its 25th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi was founded on
 June 3, 1986, in order to provide live music to enhance the spirit
 of solemnity and grandeur inherent in patriotic ceremonies; and
 WHEREAS, This dedicated group was formed under the
 direction of Ram Chavez, a Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart
 recipient; consisting of veterans from all branches of military
 service, the band has been honored by many local and national
 organizations; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, the band has performed at
 countless patriotic ceremonies and for numerous state and
 national leaders; it has played for Presidents George H. W. Bush,
 Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush and was featured at the
 inaugural parade of Texas Governor Ann Richards; and
 WHEREAS, Current members of the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi
 are Daniel Aguilar, Kevin Aguilar-Ferrari, Frank Alaniz, Bob Allen,
 Albert Arzuaga, Jose A. Barrientes, Louis Bazaldua, Thomas Caldera,
 Robert Callejo, Rene Cantu, Daniel Carranza, Ramiro Chavez, Antonio
 Cirillo, Fernandez Cruz, Frank De los Santos, Thomas Dreyer, John
 Earhart, Christopher Fridge, Gabriel Escobar, Jesse Escobedo, Crispin
 Garcia, Leo Garcia, Amos Griffen, Terry Harris, Sixto Hernandez, Eddie
 Heskett, Emmitt "Bubba" Jacob, Mark Johnson, Dr. Rick Lazarte, Juan
 Ledesma, Floyd G. Loomis, Juan Lugo, Gilbert Luna, Richard Perez
 Martinez, Rene Marroquin, Greg Mendoza, Terry Morris, Alex Muro, Beto
 Palacios, Beto C. Rios, Al Rivera, Jose Robles, Enrique Rodriguez,
 Juan Sanchez, Tilden Smith, Larry Villareal, and Larry White; and
 WHEREAS, This exemplary band is truly deserving of
 recognition for its enduring commitment to bringing respect and
 dignity to patriotic occasions; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi
 on 25 years of outstanding musicianship and extend to its members
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
