                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 997
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Lavern Kistner on the occasion of her retirement from
 Brooks City-Base on June 30, 2011, after 35 years of federal
 civil service; and
 WHEREAS, Lavern Kistner began her civil service career as a
 clerk typist at Chanute Air Force Base in her home state of
 Illinois; she was selected for the Upward Mobility program, and
 in March 1977, she was assigned as a training technician in
 flight simulator maintenance; she held several positions at
 Chanute in the technical training group; she was ultimately
 assigned as a training instructor; and
 WHEREAS, Her first supervisory assignment was course
 supervisor for analog and digital flight simulator training; in
 1989, she was transferred to Lackland Air Force Base, where she
 worked for the Occupational Measurement Squadron and the 37th
 Technical Training Group; and
 WHEREAS, In her final assignment as director of education
 and training, Lavern has been dedicated to ensuring that military
 personnel are provided educational opportunities, including
 those offered through the Post 9/11 GI Bill program; because of
 her efforts Brooks City-Base has had the highest percentage of
 graduates of the Community College of the Air Force in the Air
 Force Materiel Command for the last 12 years; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Lavern has been widely
 recognized for her expertise and professionalism; her numerous
 awards include being named Training Manager of the Year and Federal
 Woman of the Year; her dedication, wisdom, and leadership have
 contributed significantly to the quality of education and training
 at each assignment she has held over the years; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, hereby commend Lavern Kistner for her valuable
 service to our country and extend to her best wishes for the years
 ahead; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
