 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A 60th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
 mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Juan D. and Jerry
 Nichols of Quitman celebrated this joyous milestone in their
 marriage on May 18, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Juan D. Nichols and the former Jerry Jordan first
 met while attending Winnsboro High School and later attended
 college together; after Mr. Nichols joined the U.S. Navy, they were
 joined in matrimony in 1951 at a ceremony held at the Methodist
 church in Vallejo, California; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, the couple have been blessed with
 a treasured family that includes four children, Marian Nichols
 Jackson, Carolyn Gilbreath and her husband, Harold, D'Ann Drennan
 and her husband, John, and Connie Hamm Nichols, as well as eight
 grandchildren, Monica, Emily, Chris, Callie, Thomas, Katherine,
 Molly, and Audrey; and
 WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. and Mrs.
 Nichols are graduates of Texas A&M University--Commerce; retired
 since 1997, Mr. Nichols served as executive vice president of Wood
 County Electric Cooperative for 35 years; he is currently chair of
 the board of BankTexas and is a longtime member of the Quitman
 Rotary Club, a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, and a past Worshipful
 Master; Mrs. Nichols taught kindergarten in their home for eight
 years as well as remedial reading for the Quitman Independent
 School District; she was the first female director on the Sabine
 River Authority, which she further served as president; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed couple have enjoyed six decades of
 abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an
 exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting
 commitment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Juan D. and
 Jerry Nichols on their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them
 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Nichols as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
