 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the
 passing of the Reverend John Brannon Haskins, Sr., of Houston, on
 February 20, 2011, at the age of 85; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Benton, Tennessee, on February 5, 1926, to
 David Calvin and Etta Pearl Vest Haskins, J. B. Haskins was the
 eighth of 13 children; he enlisted in the United States Navy after
 high school and attended the navy's radio school; during World War
 II, he saw action at Leyte Gulf and was a crew member on a ship that
 escorted General Douglas MacArthur's vessel during his return to
 the Philippines; and
 WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Mr.
 Haskins studied at Tennessee Tech University, graduating in 1949;
 he then hitchhiked to Fort Worth and enrolled at Southwestern
 Baptist Theological Seminary, working his way through school and
 earning a bachelor's degree in divinity and a master's degree in
 religious education; his long and accomplished career as a pastor
 included service to congregations in Dallas, Houston, and Pasadena
 as well as Roanoke, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida; and
 WHEREAS, Reverend Haskins also was employed for many years by
 Olan Mills Photography in its church directory department, and he
 later worked for a service that delivered lost luggage in the
 Houston area; his hobbies included golf and snow skiing, and he was
 known for his love of a good joke; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Reverend Haskins was
 supported by his loving wife, Laura Ann Haskins, and the couple
 shared nearly 60 years together; they became the parents of three
 sons, John Brannon Haskins, Jr., Stephen Murray Haskins, and
 Richard Gregory Haskins, and their family later grew to include
 four grandchildren and a great-grandson; and
 WHEREAS, J. B. Haskins lived a rich and purposeful life
 devoted to his faith and his family; though he will be greatly
 missed, he will long be fondly remembered for the spiritual
 guidance and care he provided to others through the years; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
 the Reverend John Brannon Haskins, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy
 to the members of his family: to his wife, Laura Ann Haskins; to his
 sons, John B. Haskins, Jr., and his wife, Betty Marie, and Stephen
 Murray Haskins and his wife, Rhonda Gayle; to his grandchildren,
 Jennifer Melanie Vincent and her husband, Jack, Jillian Megan
 Haskins, Jamie Denise Haskins, and Ross Brannon Haskins; to his
 great-grandson, Jackson Brannon Vincent; to his sister, Sarah Grace
 McTaggart; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
 Reverend John Brannon Haskins, Sr.
