R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Moises L. Prieto of Del Rio on
December 2, 2010, at the age of 91, has deeply saddened the family
and many friends of this beloved man; and
WHEREAS, Moises Prieto was born in Del Rio on July 4, 1919, to
Tirzo and Rosa Prieto; answering his nation's call to duty, he
served in the U.S. Army during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the Pacific theater during the war, Mr.
Prieto immediately took a leadership role among his fellow Mexican
American soldiers and served as a mentor, role model, and "older
brother" for many younger Hispanics from small towns across Texas;
and
WHEREAS, After returning home to Del Rio, he became actively
involved in efforts to improve conditions for Mexican Americans and
to encourage civic and political engagement in causes that
benefited all residents of Del Rio; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Prieto married the former Maria Josefina
Renovato, and they shared 49 years together until her death; the
couple were blessed with four children, and their family eventually
grew to include five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Although Moises Prieto is deeply missed, his legacy
of dedicated service in behalf of his country, his community, and
his loved ones will continue to be a source of inspiration for many
years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Moises L. Prieto and extend sincere condolences to the members of
his family: to his sons, Moises R. Prieto, Jr., and his wife, Rosa
Elia, and Moises Prieto III and his wife, Crystal; to his daughters,
Velma P. Gonzalez and Alice P. Barrera and her husband, Donald; to
his brother, Eduardo Prieto; to his grandchildren, Melinda
Brijalba, Rachel Ruiz, Raul Alfredo Menchaca, Dulce Maria Grace
Prieto, and Anastasia Alicia Elizabeth Prieto; to his
great-grandchildren, Alexia Mirasol Brijalba, Fabian Iziah
Menchaca, Eulalio Ruiz IV, and Jasmine Elizabeth Ruiz; and to his
other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Moises L.
Prieto.
