H.R. No. 182 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The City of Bellaire and the directors of Evelyn's Park Conservancy are hosting the dedication of Evelyn's Park on June 25, 2011; and WHEREAS, In 2009, the Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation acquired the historic site of Bellaire's first business, Teas Nursery Company, and donated it for use as parkland; the nursery was established in 1843 by nationally prominent horticulturist John C. Teas, and his son, Edward Teas, landscaped many of Houston's most beautiful neighborhoods; by 1951, Teas Nursery had planted more than a million trees in the Houston area; and WHEREAS, The park is named in honor of the late mother of Jerry and Maury Rubenstein, Evelyn Rubenstein, who emphasized the importance of giving back to the community; continuing her tradition of service, the Rubenstein Foundation adopted the vision of creating a vibrant urban park and engaging the public in determining design and development; Evelyn's Park Conservancy is a nonprofit corporation formed to enhance the health, safety, and well-being of citizens of Bellaire and surrounding communities through the establishment of the park and the programs it will offer; and WHEREAS, Evelyn's Park will contribute greatly to the quality of life in Bellaire, providing a lovely space where residents can gather and enjoy nature in a historic wooded setting for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication of Evelyn's Park and honor all those associated with its development for their contributions; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Evelyn's Park Conservancy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
