H.R. No. 195
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Volar Center for Independent Living in El Paso
has been named the 2011 Center for Independent Living of the Year by
the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1981 by the Texas Rehabilitation
Commission and EPOCH, the Volar Center for Independent Living is a
private nonprofit corporation led by and for individuals with
disabilities; and
WHEREAS, The organization is dedicated to advocating human
and civil rights, bolstering opportunities in the community, and
empowering men and women with special needs to control and direct
their own lives; in an effort to meet these worthwhile goals, Volar
offers information, referral, and transportation services,
independent living skills training, and peer counseling; in
addition, the center hosts a Home By Choice program to assist men
and women as they transition out of nursing facilities and a lending
closet to supply medical equipment to people in need; and
WHEREAS, For 30 years, the Volar Center for Independent
Living has helped to enhance the lives of many West Texans, and all
those associated with this notable enterprise may take great pride
in their contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Volar
Center for Independent Living on being named the 2011 Center for
Independent Living of the Year by the State of Texas and extend to
its management and staff sincere best wishes for continued success
with their important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
