H.R. No. 217 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Locally owned businesses are vital to the economic well-being of Texas communities, and in 2011 the Ellis Motor Company is celebrating 40 years of service to the residents of Chandler; and WHEREAS, Coy Ellis was born and raised in Chandler, where his father and grandfather had a grocery and hardware store; he graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler in 1965 and served in the United States Army for three years; after completing his service in 1969, he began working on cars in his family's barn, and he built and opened a repair shop in 1971; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis has operated his business in the same location ever since, expanding the building three times; the company has grown to include four full-time employees, and he credits his success to his many loyal customers from Chandler, Tyler, and the surrounding area; and WHEREAS, A prominent member of the community, Mr. Ellis has given back to his hometown by serving on the Chandler City Council for nearly a quarter of a century, and he is also a member of the town's Masonic Lodge; in all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, Barbara Ellis; and WHEREAS, This independently owned business has continued to thrive over the course of four decades, and it is indeed deserving of recognition on the occasion of this milestone year; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Coy Ellis and the Ellis Motor Company on the 40th anniversary of the business and extend to Mr. Ellis and his staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ellis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
