H.R. No. 273
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Brazoswood High School Trap and Clay Shooters
took home a gold medal as a result of their outstanding performance
in the state Clay Trap/Sporting Clays Tournament, held in San
Antonio on June 7 and 8, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The mixed trap team of Colton Roeder, Chelsea
Anguiano, Nathan Hudgeons, and Forrest Whitley scored 274 points,
13 traps better than their nearest opponent; the 4 Brazoswood
students were among 474 shooters representing 41 different schools
at the meet, which is one of the fastest-growing state
competitions; and
WHEREAS, This triumph follows the success of the Brazoswood
girls' team, which took first place at the meet in 2009 and 2010,
making this year the third in a row that the Buccaneers have earned
a state title; and
WHEREAS, Ably led by sponsor Michael Firkins for the past
four years, the Brazoswood Trap and Clay Shooters promote safety in
outdoor sports and provide opportunities for leadership and
camaraderie among participants; in addition, the team serves as an
extension to the wildlife class taught at Brazoswood High School;
and
WHEREAS, Through skill and dedication, the Brazoswood
shooters have furthered their school's impressive record in the
sport, and their accomplishment is a source of pride for their
fellow students and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the
Brazoswood High School Trap and Clay Shooters team on its
championship performance at the state Clay Trap/Sporting Clays
Tournament in San Antonio and extend to its members sincere best
wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
