 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Proud members of the Spring Fire Department are
 joining with local citizens to dedicate a new fire station and
 administration building at a ceremony on July 2, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Station 71 is a state-of-the-art,
 14,000-square-foot facility with four vehicle bays, located on East
 Louetta Road next door to the new, 10,000-square-foot
 administration building; and
 WHEREAS, Chartered in 1953 with only seven members, the
 Spring Fire Department has grown to accommodate the community and
 today includes more than 100 paid and volunteer professionals who
 work to protect the lives and property of some 100,000 people in
 Northwest Harris County; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to fighting fires, the department
 handles emergency medical calls, rescue and vehicle extrication,
 and hazardous materials services; members of the department also
 regularly educate the public about the use of smoke detectors and
 fire extinguishers, the hazards of carbon monoxide, and the
 importance of emergency exit drills in the home; and
 WHEREAS, The Spring Fire Department's two new buildings are
 being dedicated in memory of several people, including district
 chief Michael F. West, who died in the line of duty on March 2, 1985,
 and former firefighters John Miller, Frank Arp, Terry O'Toole, Alan
 Schlein, Ron Thomas, and Bob Aman; and
 WHEREAS, The Spring Fire Department has contributed to the
 safety and welfare of the community for nearly 60 years, and these
 new facilities will further ensure its ability to best serve the
 area public; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication
 of the Spring Fire Department's Station 71 and adjacent
 administration building and extend to all those in attendance
 sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Spring Fire Department as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
