H.R. No. 62 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Rio Grande City native Lauro L. Lopez has distinguished himself through a lifetime of meaningful accomplishments that have made a positive difference in the local community and beyond; and WHEREAS, Born on May 20, 1924, Mr. Lopez graduated from high school in 1943 and served his country in the United States Army during World War II; he was initially stationed at the headquarters of General Eisenhower in England and then helped evacuate wounded soldiers from France; after his honorable discharge from the military, he attended The University of Texas at Austin, studying geology, and subsequently worked in the garment industry in New York City while pursuing a career in photography; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez returned to Rio Grande City in the early 1950s, where he held jobs selling cars and working on the Falcon Dam project; he was employed for more than 17 years with LFD Homefurnishings, and then decided to open his own store, Triple L Furniture and Appliance, in 1970; he continued to oversee the business for the next 35 years; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan shared his time and talents as the vice president of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership and as the president of the Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce; he was a leader in the successful effort to reincorporate Rio Grande City in 1993, and he served two terms as a city alderman; appointed by Governor Bush to the South Texas Workforce Development Board, he also held a seat on the Starr County Industrial Foundation board; moreover, he is active in the Catholic Church, as a grand knight in the Knights of Columbus, and as a knight commander in the Order of the Alhambra; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Lopez enjoys the love and support of his wife, Maria Celia S. Lopez, with whom he has shared more than six decades of rewarding partnership; the couple are the parents of five children, David, Daniel, Diana, Dalinda, and Delia; and WHEREAS, Through service to his country, state, and hometown, Lauro Lopez has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his fellow citizens, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his many notable achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Lauro L. Lopez for his contributions as a business and civic leader and as a member of the armed forces and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Lopez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
