 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Will Hoenig of Lake Travis High School earned first
 place in extemporaneous persuasive speaking at the 2011 University
 Interscholastic League Conference 4A State Academics Spring Meet;
 and
 WHEREAS, The most comprehensive literary and academic
 competition in the nation, this annual event includes a variety of
 contests that complement the academic curriculum and also motivate
 students to acquire higher levels of knowledge, confront issues of
 importance, and think critically; and
 WHEREAS, Specifically, the extemporaneous persuasive
 speaking contest seeks to train students to analyze a current
 issue, determine a point of view, and then organize and deliver a
 speech that persuades listeners to agree with that point of view;
 students prepare for the contest by reading newspapers and news
 magazines, as well as by searching the Internet and listening to
 radio and television news programs, and they are judged on their
 analysis and content, organization, and delivery; and
 WHEREAS, With the guidance and encouragement of LTHS speech
 teacher Barbara Ixba, Will Hoenig distinguished himself as one of
 the state's top students in extemporaneous persuasive speaking, and
 he may indeed take great pride in his achievement; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Will Hoenig on
 earning first place in extemporaneous persuasive speaking at the
 2011 UIL Conference 4A State Academics Spring Meet and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Hoenig as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
