H.R. No. 92 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The citizens of Mineola lost one of their most admired community leaders with the death of Judge Ed Hunt on April 6, 2011, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Ed Hunt was born to Oscar and Mabel Hunt in Forney on September 24, 1932; he and his wife, Bobbie, shared a rewarding marriage of 48 years, and they were blessed with two children, Clint and Leigh, as well as six grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Judge Hunt proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps; he remained devoted to the marines throughout his life, and he helped found Mineola Detachment No. 1278 of the Marine Corps League; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan forged an exemplary record of public service; he worked for 27 years with the Wood County Sheriff's Department, served stints as justice of the peace of Precinct 2 in Wood County and as a city judge in Mineola, spent two years with the U.S. Marshals Service, and retired from the Dallas Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Judge Hunt's gruff exterior belied his warm heart and compassionate nature; he was a great friend and mentor to many people in his community, and he had a particularly soft spot for children, contributing countless hours to the Marine Corps League's Toys for Tots program and keeping toys in his pickup truck to pass out year-round whenever he saw a child in need; and WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Judge Hunt was active in the congregation of First United Methodist Church; he was also a Mason, affiliated with Mineola Masonic Lodge No. 502, and a member of the American Legion; and WHEREAS, While the death of Ed Hunt brings immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable Ed Hunt and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Bobbie Hunt; to his children, Clinton Edward and Leigh Ann Hunt; to his grandchildren, Dillon, Clint, Taylor, Tamara, Tori, and Whitney; to his sisters, Peggy Heidt, Arlene Siler, and Darlene Basden; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge Ed Hunt.
