H.R. No. 96 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Robert Finn is stepping down as chief of the police services division of the Southlake Department of Public Safety in June 2011 to accept a new opportunity, drawing to a close a notable career in public service that has spanned nearly a quarter-century; and WHEREAS, Chief Finn grew up in Southlake, where he graduated from Carroll High School in 1985; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas in 2001 and a master's degree in business administration from Grand Canyon University in 2010; he is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has pursued legal studies at the University of Virginia; and WHEREAS, This outstanding public servant joined Southlake DPS in 1987, and through the years he distinguished himself in a variety of posts, including volunteer firefighter, emergency medical technician, and professional firefighter; he was the city's fire chief from 2002 to 2008, and in August 2008, he became Southlake's chief of police; under his leadership, the city's fire and police services earned international accreditation, and he also helped oversee the completion of the DPS headquarters and the development of the department's command staff; and WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Chief Finn has also found time to contribute to the community as a member of the board of trustees for Metroport Meals on Wheels and as a member of the Southlake Rotary Club and the Southlake Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Robert Finn's dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the citizens of Southlake and earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Chief Robert Finn on his outstanding tenure with the Southlake Department of Public Safety and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Chief Finn as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
