SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115 In Memory of George Edward Glassford WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of George Edward "Chris" Glassford, who died April 24, 2011, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, George Edward Glassford was born March 4, 1924, in South Pekin, Illinois; he served the nation with distinction as a pilot in the United States Navy during World War II and later in the United States Naval Reserve; and WHEREAS, Following his graduation from the University of Missouri, Mr. Glassford worked in Chicago at the Mercantile Exchange before becoming a produce broker, which brought him to South Texas, where he met and married Sheila Slaughter; he joined his father-in-law's produce firm and worked there for many years, and he was inducted into the Texas Produce Hall of Fame in 2009; and WHEREAS, He was active in the Laredo community and was a strong supporter of United Day School and the Washington's Birthday Celebration; he portrayed George Washington in 1975, and he also received the Matias DeLlano Award; and WHEREAS, A man of faith, courage, and generosity, he was beloved by his family and friends, and he will long be remembered with respect and admiration by all those who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of George Edward Glassford; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George Edward Glassford.
