SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the City of Fort Worth, which has for the third time been named an All-America City; and WHEREAS, Awarded by the National Civic League, the coveted All-America City designation acknowledges a city's achievements and its ability to unite behind a vision to improve the quality of life for all its residents; and WHEREAS, Fort Worth was recognized for three exemplary programs that have made a difference for the city's people; it enacted a 10-year plan entitled Directions Home that has helped hundreds of formerly homeless people find housing and jobs and has reduced the homeless population by some 30 percent; the Mental Health Connection has since its formation 11 years ago generated more than $45 million in funds and in-kind services to improve local mental-health care; and the graffiti abatement program We Are Legal, which encourages teens to create murals in public places, has resulted in 10 murals in graffiti-prone areas of the city; and WHEREAS, Thanks to the efforts of its leadership and its dedicated citizenry, the City of Fort Worth has become a premier place in which to live, work, and raise a family; it is truly deserving of recognition as an All-America City; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the City of Fort Worth on its efforts to create an outstanding quality of life for its citizens and extend congratulations on being named an All-America City for the third time; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the city as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
