SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12 WHEREAS, The Red River BBQ Battle is taking place on October 28 and 29, 2011, at the historic Santa Rosa Rodeo Grounds in Vernon; and WHEREAS, Now in its second year, the popular event draws large numbers of participants to Vernon on the last weekend in October and is already regarded by many as a premier Texas cook-off; and WHEREAS, The Red River BBQ Battle is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society and is a Texas State Barbecue Championship competition that features a top-notch lineup of pit masters competing to determine who makes the tastiest Texas barbecue in the region; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Vernon Chamber of Commerce, the cook-off also serves as a fund-raiser for the chamber's many good works; and WHEREAS, In addition to the competition, the occasion includes a concert and provides area residents and visitors alike with plenty of options for enjoying the autumn weekend; and WHEREAS, The organizers of the Red River BBQ Battle have created a highly anticipated community tradition that serves up a Texas-sized helping of fun and entertainment to all who attend; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2011 Red River BBQ Battle in Vernon and extend sincere best wishes to the event's organizers, contestants, and attendees for a successful and enjoyable cook-off; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to commemorate this special event.
