SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to George Washington, Sr., of Beaumont on the grand occasion of his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, George Washington was born July 23, 1911, in Evergreen, Louisiana, to Archie and Mary Washington; he was married to the late Helen Beatrice Benjamin-Washington; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, Mr. Washington served in the United States Army during World War II and did water purification for General Dwight D. Eisenhower; a devout Christian, he has attended Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church in south Beaumont for more than 50 years; he is a deacon for the church and holds the honorary title of "Father of the Church"; and WHEREAS, An active gentleman, Mr. Washington keeps a beautiful garden of vegetables and other plants; he is a proficient crab fisherman and an excellent cook and loves having his family around him; and WHEREAS, George Washington, Sr., is well known for his good humor, his generosity of spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; on July 23, 2011, he will be joined by his family and friends at Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate and commemorate this significant occasion in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize George Washington, Sr., as a treasured citizen of this state and extend to him best wishes for a wonderful birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
