                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 125
 In Memory
 of
 Maurine Viola Gustafson Kocurek
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Maurine Viola
 Gustafson Kocurek, who died June 17, 2011, at the age of 98; and
 WHEREAS, Maurine Viola Gustafson Kocurek was born November
 25, 1912, in rural Travis County to Ida and Carl Gustafson; she
 moved with her family to Austin at a young age and went on to
 graduate from Austin High School, earning both academic and
 commercial diplomas; and
 WHEREAS, She married Willie Kocurek, the love of her life,
 in 1934, and the couple raised two children, Neal and Kay; a firm
 believer in the value of education, she played a vital role in her
 children's schooling and extracurricular activities, serving as
 president of the Parent Teacher Association and participating in
 Brownies and Cub Scouts; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kocurek was instrumental in helping her
 husband start his business, the Willie Kocurek Company, and she
 later provided invaluable support when he returned to The
 University of Texas at Austin to study law; and
 WHEREAS, Active in community and civic affairs, Mrs.
 Kocurek was founding president of the Lions' Ladies Luncheon Club
 and a life member of the Austin Women's Club; she was a member of
 the advisory board of the Austin Community College Senior Academy
 and was named Outstanding Citizen in 1989 by the Adult Services
 Council of Austin; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Kocurek was a devout Christian who practiced
 her faith in her daily life; she was a member of University United
 Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board
 and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and was a member of the
 Fellowship Forum Sunday School class; and
 WHEREAS, A woman of strength, compassion, and warmth, she
 gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom and her enthusiasm for
 living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who
 knew her; and
 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
 and although she will be deeply missed by her family and
 countless friends, she will continue to live in their hearts and
 minds for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
 condolences to the bereaved family of Maurine Viola Gustafson
 Kocurek; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Maurine Viola Gustafson Kocurek.
