SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Taiwanese Hakka Associations of America, an outstanding cultural organization, which is holding its annual conference in Houston beginning August 6, 2011; and WHEREAS, The organization has 21 local Hakka chapters located throughout the United States and Canada; since 1993, it has sponsored annual Hakka cultural conferences in the United States, Canada, and Brazil, which provide a platform for the Hakka people to celebrate their achievements and share cultural experiences; and WHEREAS, There are more than 10 million people around the world who speak the Hakka dialect, many of whom have played vital leadership roles in southeast Asia, including Lee Teng-hui of Taiwan and Lee Kwang-Yaw of Singapore; and WHEREAS, The keynote speaker at this year's conference in Houston is Minister Yu-Cheng Huang of the Council of Hakka Affairs of Taiwan; this distinguished gentleman has led the way in developing national policy and cultural affairs on behalf of the people of Hakka heritage in Taiwan; and WHEREAS, This exemplary organization is truly deserving of recognition for its dedication to furthering the principles and ideals of the Hakka people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Taiwanese Hakka Associations of America for exemplary commitment to promoting the values of the Hakka people and extend best wishes for a successful annual conference; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
