SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the Houston Gulf Coast Building Trades Council, the Harris County American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, and the Williams Kherkher Law Firm in paying tribute to working men and women at the 2011 Unity Labor Day Celebration and Barbecue Cook-off; and WHEREAS, The barbecue cook-off is sanctioned by the Texas Gulf Coast Barbecue Cookers Association; participants this year include more than 100 teams of barbecue cookers from across the state, who will compete for $20,000 in prize money; and WHEREAS, The Unity Labor Day Celebration and Barbecue Cook-off is attended each year by thousands of people and offers many fun-filled activities for the whole family; and WHEREAS, The celebration and cook-off benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which has received more than $450,000 over the last six years from the annual event; and WHEREAS, Barbecue reigns supreme in Texas and contests are held across the state to find the best of this excellent cuisine; the people attending the Unity Labor Day Celebration and Barbecue Cook-off are sure to enjoy marvelous food and wonderful entertainment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to all for an exceptional Unity Labor Day Celebration and Barbecue Cook-off and recognize the barbecue cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of the Unity Labor Day Celebration and Barbecue Cook-off.
