SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Burlyce Logan on the occasion of her graduation from the University of North Texas; and WHEREAS, Burlyce Logan first enrolled in 1956 as one of the first African American students to attend the university after the landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling by the United States Supreme Court; she faced prejudice and discrimination on campus before dropping out of school to move to California, where she married and began her family; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Logan remained determined to earn a college degree from the University of North Texas; she returned with her husband to Denton in 1996 and held a number of jobs, including work at the university, before reenrolling in classes in 2005; and WHEREAS, Upon her return as a student, Mrs. Logan distinguished herself in classes, earning the admiration of her of first serving as a pioneer in the university's integration and then excelling in school after a hiatus of nearly half a century are an inspiration to all those who know her; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Logan embodies the virtues of courage, strength, and resolve, and it is truly fitting that she be honored for this signal achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Burlyce Logan on her many achievements and extend congratulations to her on the occasion of her graduation from the University of North Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
