SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Barbara Adamson for her exceptional efforts through the Care Van Program to help the children of Texas lead healthier lives; and WHEREAS, Barbara Adamson developed the Care Van Program in 1997; one of the most comprehensive and innovative immunization outreach programs in the state, it has provided more than 858,000 immunizations to 515,000 children since its inception; the program is supported by the Caring For Children Foundation of Texas and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas; and WHEREAS, Immunizing children is one of the most direct, simple, and inexpensive ways to build healthier futures for medically underserved families in Texas, yet one in four children in the state go without the immunizations needed to lead a healthy, happy life due to financial or logistical constraints; and WHEREAS, The Care Van Program, which uses a fleet of 10 specialized vans, has served children in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Abilene, San Angelo, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and the Dallas and Fort Worth area; and WHEREAS, The Care Van Program is more than a job for its founder and manager; for Barbara Adamson, it is a labor of love; a compassionate and caring individual, she is a cancer survivor, a community volunteer, and an exemplary role model; her dedication and leadership have made a real difference in the lives and futures of thousands of her fellow citizens, and she is most deserving of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Barbara Adamson for her commitment to protecting the health of children and her success with the Care Van Program and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
