SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ada Collins Anderson, who has been selected by the ProArts Collective to receive the 2011 Boyd Vance Award for the Advancement of the Arts; and WHEREAS, The award is being presented at the third annual ProArts Collective afternoon tea and scholarship fund-raiser, on June 23; the ProArts Collective celebrates and honors the contributions of African Americans to our area's arts and culture; and WHEREAS, Ada Anderson holds a graduate degree in educational psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, and she has long been a proponent of the arts in Austin; she served on the board of the Laguna Gloria Art Museum for 15 years, and she was a founding member of the Austin Lyric Opera; and WHEREAS, In 1989, she initiated the creation of the Leadership Enrichment Arts Program to offer low-income and minority youths a chance to experience the performing and visual arts; she was an early civil rights activist, and she has been a member of numerous African American professional organizations; she was elected to the Texas Black Women's Hall of Fame, and she has been the recipient of a leadership award from the Austin Chamber of Commerce Business Committee on the Arts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Ada Collins Anderson for her outstanding citizenship and her exemplary service to her community and state and extend to her congratulations on earning the 2011 Boyd Vance Award for the Advancement of the Arts; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
