SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Honorable James E. Nugent on the joyous occasion of his 89th birthday, on June 22, 2011; and WHEREAS, A former state representative and longtime public servant, Jim Nugent is a beloved and respected member of his community; and WHEREAS, Jim Nugent was born June 22, 1922; he earned a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law; he served his country during World War II as a naval aviator; he has a daughter, Nan White, and a son, Skip Trammel; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nugent was dedicated to his work as an elected official for 38 years; he served three terms as Kerr County Attorney, 18 years in the Texas House of Representatives, and 16 years with the Texas Railroad Commission; and WHEREAS, Since he is now celebrating his 89th birthday, it is an appropriate time to pay tribute to him for his invaluable service to his state and country; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Nugent has been noted for his generosity, his courage, his patriotism, and the joy he takes in living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize the Honorable James E. Nugent as a treasured citizen of this state and extend to him congratulations on the occasion of his 89th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
