SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Carroll Putnam Choate, who was born July 15, 1931, in Big Spring, Texas; and WHEREAS, An established entrepreneur in West Texas, Mr. Choate cofounded and operated Choate Water Well Service, providing jobs and outstanding service to the region for 61 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Choate represented his business interests and the needs of the community through his participation and service with professional organizations dedicated to improving practices in the fields of cattle ranching, soil and water conservation, and the preservation of groundwater resources; and WHEREAS, Mr. Choate has freely contributed his time and talents toward the betterment of Howard County; he helped to return the Big Spring to its historic flow levels and maintained a corporate sponsorship of the Cancer Survivors' Walk for 17 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Choate served both civic and faith communities for decades as chairman of the Big Spring First United Methodist Church board of trustees, and he was a member of the Coahoma Independent School District board of trustees for nine consecutive years; and WHEREAS, The patriarch of the 2002 Pioneer Family of the Year, Mr. Choate is married to the former Joyce Marie Kilpatrick, and they recently celebrated their 61st year together; they raised John Melvin "Dusty" Choate and Laurie Choate Churchwell of Big Spring, Mark Putnam Choate of Dallas, and Julie Choate Johnson of Houston; Mr. Choate particularly enjoys spending time with his 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Carroll Putnam Choate as a treasured citizen of this state and congratulate him on the occasion of his 80th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
