                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 99
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of
 Houston, Texas, on the grand occasion of its 130th anniversary,
 which is being celebrated August 14, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Over the last 130 years, the Brown Chapel African
 Methodist Episcopal Church has ministered faithfully to the
 needs of the citizens of Houston, and due to the guidance and wise
 stewardship of its current pastor, Reverend Dr. Ruben Braziel,
 the church has undertaken many worthy projects in the community;
 and
 WHEREAS, The church was organized during a meeting that
 took place on July 10, 1881; it was planned with the intention of
 serving the West End and Chaneyville communities, which later
 became the Sixth Ward; the church was named in honor of its first
 pastor, Reverend Louis Brown; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the church has served as
 an invaluable source of strength to its members during their
 hardships and in difficult times; and
 WHEREAS, The observance of the church's 130th anniversary
 is an opportunity to celebrate its contributions to area citizens
 and to show appreciation for the support and inspiration it
 provides the community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the
 clergy and members of Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal
 Church on the joyous occasion of its 130th anniversary; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the church in honor of this special occasion.
