99 AN ACT
1010 relating to the issuance of military specialty license plates;
1111 providing an exemption from a fee.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 504.202(e-1), Transportation Code, is
1414 amended to read as follows:
1515 (e-1) Other than license plates issued under Subsection
1616 (h), license plates issued under this section to a person also
1717 entitled to license plates issued under Section 504.308, 504.315,
1818 [or] 504.316, or 504.319 may, at the request of the person, include
1919 one emblem from the other license plates to which the person is
2020 entitled.
2121 SECTION 2. Section 504.301, Transportation Code, is amended
2222 by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
2323 (c) Section 504.702 does not apply to a specialty license
2424 plate issued under this subchapter.
2525 SECTION 3. Section 504.3015(a), Transportation Code, is
2626 amended to read as follows:
2727 (a) A person applying for a set of license plates under this
2828 subchapter shall pay the registration fee required under Chapter
2929 502 and the applicable special plate fee required under this
3030 section, except that one set of license plates shall be issued under
3131 Section 504.308, [or] 504.315, or 504.319 without the payment of
3232 the registration fee.
3333 SECTION 4. Section 504.315(a), Transportation Code, as
3434 added by Chapter 709 (H.B. 559), Acts of the 82nd Legislature,
3535 Regular Session, 2011, is amended to read as follows:
3636 (a) The department shall issue specialty license plates for
3737 recipients of the Bronze Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal with
3838 Valor. License plates issued under this subsection must include
3939 the Bronze Star Medal emblem and must include the words "Bronze Star
4040 Medal" at the bottom of each plate. License plates issued under
4141 this subsection to recipients of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor
4242 that are not personalized must also include the letter "V" as a
4343 prefix or suffix to the numerals on each plate. [Section 504.702
4444 does not apply to license plates authorized by this subsection.]
4545 SECTION 5. Section 504.315(a), Transportation Code, as
4646 added by Chapter 460 (S.B. 1755), Acts of the 82nd Legislature,
4747 Regular Session, 2011, is redesignated as Section 504.315(b),
4848 Transportation Code, and amended to read as follows:
4949 (b) [(a)] The department shall issue specialty license
5050 plates for recipients of the Distinguished Service Medal. License
5151 plates issued under this subsection must include the Distinguished
5252 Service Medal emblem and the words "Distinguished Service Medal" at
5353 the bottom of each plate. [Section 504.702 does not apply to
5454 license plates authorized by this subsection.]
5555 SECTION 6. Section 504.315(h), Transportation Code, is
5656 amended to read as follows:
5757 (h) The department shall issue special license plates for
5858 recipients of the Silver Star Medal. License plates issued under
5959 this subsection must include the Silver Star Medal emblem and must
6060 include the words "Silver Star Medal" at the bottom of each
6161 plate. [Section 504.702 does not apply to license plates
6262 authorized by this subsection.]
6363 SECTION 7. Subchapter D, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
6464 is amended by adding Section 504.319 to read as follows:
6565 Sec. 504.319. DEFENSE SUPERIOR SERVICE MEDAL RECIPIENTS.
6666 The department shall issue specialty license plates for recipients
6767 of the Defense Superior Service Medal. License plates issued under
6868 this section must include the words "Defense Superior Service
6969 Medal" at the bottom of each plate.
7070 SECTION 8. Section 681.008(b), Transportation Code, is
7171 amended to read as follows:
7272 (b) A vehicle on which license plates described by
7373 Subsection (a)(2) or issued under Section 504.202, 504.315,
7474 [Section 504.315(a), (c), (d), (e), (f), (g), or (h), or Section]
7575 504.316, or 504.319 are displayed is exempt from the payment of a
7676 parking fee collected through a parking meter charged by a
7777 governmental authority other than a branch of the federal
7878 government, when being operated by or for the transportation of:
7979 (1) the person who registered the vehicle under
8080 Section 504.202(a), 504.315, [Section 504.315(a), (c), (d), (e),
8181 (f), (g), or (h), or Section] 504.316, or 504.319;
8282 (2) a person described in Section 504.202(b) if the
8383 vehicle is registered under that subsection; or
8484 (3) the owner or operator of a vehicle displaying
8585 license plates described by Subsection (a)(2).
8686 SECTION 9. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
