| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Sections 1023.004 and 1023.052, Special District |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Local Laws Code, are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 1023.004. DISTRICT TERRITORY. The district is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | composed of the territory described by Section 1.03, Chapter 221, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Acts of the 71st Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, unless the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | boundaries of the district are expanded under Subchapter H or other |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | applicable law. |

| 19 | 19 | | Sec. 1023.052. NOTICE OF ELECTION. Notice [Not earlier than |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 30 days or later than 10 days before the date] of an election of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | directors[, notice of the election] shall be published in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | accordance with Section 4.003, Election Code, [one time] in a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | newspaper with general circulation in the district. |

| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. Chapter 1023, Special District Local Laws Code, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | is amended by adding Subchapter H to read as follows: |

| 26 | 26 | | SUBCHAPTER H. EXPANSION OF DISTRICT TERRITORY |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Sec. 1023.401. EXPANSION OF DISTRICT TERRITORY. (a) The |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | district may expand its territory in the manner provided by Section |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 286.101, Health and Safety Code, for the expansion of the territory |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of a hospital district created under Chapter 286, Health and Safety |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Code. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (b) The board shall hold an election under this section on |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the first uniform election date that allows the board sufficient |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | time to comply with applicable requirements of law. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
