| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 42.072(d), Penal Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (d) In this section: | |
| 13 | 13 | (1) "Dating [, "dating] relationship," "family," | |
| 14 | 14 | "household," and "member of a household" have the meanings assigned | |
| 15 | 15 | by Chapter 71, Family Code. | |
| 16 | 16 | (2) "Property" includes a pet, companion animal, or | |
| 17 | 17 | assistance animal, as defined by Section 121.002, Human Resources | |
| 18 | 18 | Code. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
