13 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 443.024, Government Code, is amended by |
---|
15 | 15 | | adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |

16 | 16 | | (e) The flag of the State of Texas and the flag of the United |
---|
17 | 17 | | States shall be flown at half-staff at the Capitol building on the |
---|
18 | 18 | | death of a member of the armed forces of the United States who was a |
---|
19 | 19 | | resident of this state and who was killed in action. The flags shall |
---|
20 | 20 | | be displayed at half-staff for one day following the date the |
---|
21 | 21 | | person's family is notified of the person's death. The office of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | governor shall notify the State Preservation Board of the days on |
---|
23 | 23 | | which flags shall be flown at half-staff under this subsection. |
---|
24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
