| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 449.008(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) Public members [A public member] of the commission serve | |
| 13 | 13 | staggered four-year terms with the terms of seven or eight members | |
| 14 | 14 | expiring February 1 of each odd-numbered year [serves a term of four | |
| 15 | 15 | years]. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. When appointing public members to the Texas | |
| 17 | 17 | Holocaust and Genocide Commission to serve terms that begin | |
| 18 | 18 | February 1, 2015: | |
| 19 | 19 | (1) the governor shall appoint two members to terms | |
| 20 | 20 | expiring February 1, 2017, and three members to terms expiring | |
| 21 | 21 | February 1, 2019; | |
| 22 | 22 | (2) the lieutenant governor shall appoint three | |
| 23 | 23 | members to terms expiring February 1, 2017, and two members to terms | |
| 24 | 24 | expiring February 1, 2019; and | |
| 25 | 25 | (3) the speaker of the house of representatives shall | |
| 26 | 26 | appoint two members to terms expiring February 1, 2017, and three | |
| 27 | 27 | members to terms expiring February 1, 2019. | |
| 28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
