88 relating to the provision of career and technology education
99 courses in certain partnership programs to provide high school
1010 dropout recovery.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 29.402, Education Code, is amended by
1313 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c-1) to read as
1414 follows:
1515 (a) A [Beginning September 1, 2012, a] public junior college
1616 may enter into an articulation agreement to partner with one or more
1717 school districts located in the public junior college district to
1818 provide on the campus of the public junior college a dropout
1919 recovery program for students described by Subsection (b) to
2020 successfully complete and receive a diploma from a high school of
2121 the appropriate partnering school district.
2222 (c-1) A public junior college under this section may partner
2323 with a public technical institute, as defined by Section 61.003, to
2424 provide, as part of the dropout recovery program curriculum, career
2525 and technology education courses that lead to industry or career
2626 certification.
2727 SECTION 2. Section 29.403, Education Code, is amended by
2828 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
2929 (c) A public technical institute may receive from a
3030 partnering public junior college for each student enrolled in a
3131 career and technology education course as provided by Section
3232 29.402(c-1) an amount negotiated between the public technical
3333 institute and the partnering public junior college.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3535 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3636 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3737 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3838 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
