1010 relating to requirements for certain election officers.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 32.054(a), Election Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 (a) A person is ineligible to serve as an election judge or
1515 clerk in an election if the person is employed by or related within
1616 the second degree by consanguinity or affinity, as determined under
1717 Chapter 573, Government Code, to an opposed candidate for a public
1818 office or a [the] party office in any precinct in which the office
1919 appears on the ballot [of county chair in the election]. For
2020 purposes of this subsection, a candidate whose name appears on the
2121 ballot is not considered to be opposed by a write-in candidate other
2222 than a declared write-in candidate under Chapter 146.
2323 SECTION 2. The heading to Section 62.003, Election Code, is
2424 amended to read as follows:
2525 Sec. 62.003. [OATH OF] ELECTION OFFICERS: OATH AND
2626 IDENTIFICATION.
2727 SECTION 3. Section 62.003, Election Code, is amended by
2828 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
2929 (c) Following administration of the oath, each election
3030 officer shall be issued a form of identification, prescribed by the
3131 secretary of state, to be displayed by the officer during the
3232 officer's hours of service at the polling place.
3333 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
