| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 18, Election Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 18.062 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 18.062. INTERSTATE VOTER REGISTRATION CROSSCHECK | |
| 13 | 13 | PROGRAM. To maintain the statewide voter registration list and to | |
| 14 | 14 | prevent duplication of registration in more than one state or | |
| 15 | 15 | jurisdiction, the secretary of state shall cooperate with other | |
| 16 | 16 | states and jurisdictions to develop systems to compare voters, | |
| 17 | 17 | voter history, and voter registration lists to identify voters | |
| 18 | 18 | whose addresses have changed. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
