77 relating to the Correctional Management Institute of Texas at Sam

99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 96, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 96.645 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 96.645. CORRECTIONAL MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE OF TEXAS.
1313 (a) In this section, "institute" means the Correctional Management
1414 Institute of Texas.
1515 (b) The Correctional Management Institute of Texas is
1616 established for the training of criminal justice professionals.
1717 The headquarters of the institute are at Sam Houston State
1818 University. The institute is under the supervision and direction
1919 of the president of Sam Houston State University.
2020 (c) The president of Sam Houston State University may
2121 establish rules relating to the institute.
2222 (d) The president of Sam Houston State University shall
2323 establish reasonable charges for participation in institute
2424 training programs by participants who are not residents of this
2525 state. The participation costs of participants who are residents
2626 of this state, including tuition, books, room, board, and travel
2727 costs, shall be paid from the Correctional Management Institute of
2828 Texas and Criminal Justice Center Account in the general revenue
2929 fund.
3030 (e) The institute may provide fee-based training and
3131 professional development programming using funds other than
3232 appropriated funds.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3434 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3535 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3636 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3737 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
