9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 96, Education Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 96.645 to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | Sec. 96.645. CORRECTIONAL MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE OF TEXAS. |
---|
13 | 13 | | (a) In this section, "institute" means the Correctional Management |
---|
14 | 14 | | Institute of Texas. |
---|
15 | 15 | | (b) The Correctional Management Institute of Texas is |
---|
16 | 16 | | established for the training of criminal justice professionals. |
---|
17 | 17 | | The headquarters of the institute are at Sam Houston State |
---|
18 | 18 | | University. The institute is under the supervision and direction |
---|
19 | 19 | | of the president of Sam Houston State University. |
---|
20 | 20 | | (c) The president of Sam Houston State University may |
---|
21 | 21 | | establish rules relating to the institute. |
---|
22 | 22 | | (d) The president of Sam Houston State University shall |
---|
23 | 23 | | establish reasonable charges for participation in institute |
---|
24 | 24 | | training programs by participants who are not residents of this |
---|
25 | 25 | | state. The participation costs of participants who are residents |
---|
26 | 26 | | of this state, including tuition, books, room, board, and travel |
---|
27 | 27 | | costs, shall be paid from the Correctional Management Institute of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Texas and Criminal Justice Center Account in the general revenue |
---|
29 | 29 | | fund. |
---|
30 | 30 | | (e) The institute may provide fee-based training and |
---|
31 | 31 | | professional development programming using funds other than |
---|
32 | 32 | | appropriated funds. |
---|
33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
34 | 34 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
35 | 35 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
36 | 36 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
37 | 37 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
