A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to designation of alternative routes for the
transportation of certain radioactive waste.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 401, Health and Safety
Code, is amended by adding Section 401.0521 to read as follows:
Sec. 401.0521. ALTERNATIVE ROUTES FOR CERTAIN
MUNICIPALITIES. The department in consultation with the Texas
Department of Transportation shall, for each municipality with a
population of 600,000 or more, designate, in accordance with
federal law, alternative preferred routes around the municipality
for the transportation of radioactive material for which hazardous
materials transportation placarding is required under 49 C.F.R.
Part 172.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
