                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            February 25, 2013      TO: Honorable Garnet Coleman, Chair, House Committee On County Affairs      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB712 by Murphy (Relating to the responsibility for keeping fire-fighting equipment furnished to a volunteer fire department by a county in good working order.), As Introduced    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a petitioner to keep a volunteer fire departments fire-fighting equipment in good working order and provide labor and materials for repairs. Under current statute, the county is required to maintain the equipment. Local Government Impact There could be a savings to a county that would no longer be required to maintain a volunteer fire departments fire-fighting equipment. Those amounts would vary depending on numerous factors including, but not limited to, the size and number of volunteer fire departments; the quantity and age of the equipment; and the number and cost of repairs and replacements.
