The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a petitioner to keep a volunteer fire department's fire-fighting equipment in good working order and provide labor and materials for repairs. Under current statute, the county is required to maintain the equipment. Local Government Impact There could be a savings to a county that would no longer be required to maintain a volunteer fire department's fire-fighting equipment. Those amounts would vary depending on numerous factors including, but not limited to, the size and number of volunteer fire departments; the quantity and age of the equipment; and the number and cost of repairs and replacements. Bexar County reported no fiscal impact is anticipated. Dallas County reported no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
