99 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to vocational training programs provided by the Windham
1212 School District.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Section 19.004(c), Education Code, is amended to
1515 read as follows:
1616 (c) The district shall:
1717 (1) develop educational programs specifically
1818 designed for persons eligible under Section 19.005 and ensure that
1919 those programs, such as GED and ESL, are integrated with an applied
2020 vocational context leading to employment;
2121 (1-a) develop vocational training programs
2222 specifically designed for persons eligible under Section 19.005 and
2323 prioritize the programs that result in certification or licensure,
2424 considering the impact that a previous felony conviction has on the
2525 ability to secure certification, licensure, and employment;
2626 (1-b) continually assess job markets in this state and
2727 update, augment, and expand the vocational training programs
2828 developed under Subdivision (1-a) as necessary to provide relevant
2929 and marketable skills to students; and
3030 (2) coordinate educational programs and services in
3131 the department with those provided by other state agencies, by
3232 political subdivisions, and by persons who provide programs and
3333 services under contract.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
