 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, Family, friends, and fellow officers are mourning
 the loss of Sergeant Jimmie DeVeril Norman of the Bellaire Police
 Department, who died in the line of duty on December 24, 2012, at
 the age of 53; and
 WHEREAS, Jimmie Norman was born in Dallas on November 17,
 1959, to James and Billie Norman; he and his wife of 31 years,
 Mitzie, made their home in Sugar Land, and they were blessed with
 two children, Daniel and Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, A peace officer for nearly three decades, Sergeant
 Norman served with the department in Bellaire for 23 years, earning
 the Life Saving Commendation, the Exemplary Service Commendation,
 and certification as a master peace officer; he was named Bellaire
 Police Officer of the Year on two occasions, in 1989 and again in
 2000; and
 WHEREAS, Sergeant Norman also enjoyed the deep and lasting
 respect of his community, receiving recognition as the Bellaire
 Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce Officer of the Quarter in
 1994, the Houston 100 Club Officer of the Year in 1995, the Greater
 Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Police Officer of
 the Year in 2000, the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce
 Hometown Hero in 2007, and the Bellaire Optimist Club Officer of the
 Year in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, This beloved family man was an avid sportsman, an
 enthusiastic fan of Houston sports, and an expert grill master; he
 received the 2010 Coach of the Year award for the annual Guns and
 Hoses Football Game; always willing to lend a hand, he earned the
 affection of all who knew him with his selflessness, his
 compassion, and his sense of humor; and
 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of Texas law
 enforcement, Sergeant Norman will forever be remembered for his
 unwavering devotion to his family and friends and for his lifetime
 of dedicated service to the members of his community, for whom he
 made the ultimate sacrifice; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sergeant Jimmie DeVeril Norman
 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Mitzie Norman; to his son, Daniel Norman, and his wife,
 Hillary; to his daughter, Dallas Norman; to his parents, James and
 Billie Norman; to his brothers, Johnnie Norman and his wife, Kathy,
 Jerrie Norman and his wife, Susan, and Jamie Norman and his wife,
 Cheryl; to his mother-in-law, Norma Dobbs; to his brother-in-law,
 Randy Dobbs; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
 Sergeant Jimmie DeVeril Norman.
