| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The creative spirit of Texas artists is strong, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | nowhere is it more evident than in the city of Jewett, where the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | work of a number of notable sculptors is celebrated and admired by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | residents and visitors alike; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Leon County Art Trail program, which is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | sponsored by the Jewett Economic Development Corporation, matches |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sculptures with local business owners, who display the works |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | outside their establishments for the public to enjoy; the program |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | is also a competition, and each artist selected to participate |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | receives a cash prize, with additional awards for first, second, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and third place winners; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Now in its third year, the 2013 Art Trail features 27 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | sculptures in a variety of mediums along Main Street and in Eagle |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Scout Park, and these inventive works range from representational |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to abstract to whimsical; 50 more sculptures are displayed in a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | private gallery, while other works have been purchased by the city |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | or by businesses for permanent display; with more than 90 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sculptures in the city, there is one sculpture for every 13 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | residents of Jewett; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to be home to many talented |

| 29 | 29 | | artists, and the City of Jewett has demonstrated an admirable |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commitment to the cultural enrichment of its community through its |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | sponsorship of the Leon County Art Trail; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 33 | 33 | | hereby commemorate the third annual Leon County Art Trail and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | designate Jewett as the Sculpture Capital of Texas. |
