| 9 | 9 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 50, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) of this section, the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | homestead of a family, or of a single adult person, is not protected |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | from forced sale for the payment of the costs incurred by a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | municipality to vacate, secure, repair, remove, or demolish a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | dangerous structure on the homestead property as authorized by the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | legislature by general law. |

| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | foreclosure of a lien on homestead property for the costs incurred |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | by a municipality to vacate, secure, repair, remove, or demolish a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | dangerous structure on the property." |
