H.R. No. 1180 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Kimberlin Academy for Excellence in the Garland Independent School District has been named a 2013 Texas State School of Character; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association in collaboration with the Character Education Partnership, the award recognizes PK-8 schools and districts demonstrating outstanding character education initiatives that yield positive results in student behavior, school climate, and academic performance; applicants are measured by CEP's 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, which include creating a caring community, offering a meaningful and challenging academic curriculum, and engaging families; and WHEREAS, Kimberlin students are encouraged to contribute to both their school and their community through a wide range of programs, including Sandwiches for the Homeless, Book Buddies, in which students read to their peers, Salvation Army Angels, Kiwanis-Kids, and Safety Patrol; moreover, Kimberlin faculty and staff work to promote a strong sense of ethics in students and to instill in them the importance of courtesy, kindness, compassion, and respect for others; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to scholastic success as well, Kimberlin Academy has earned exemplary ratings from the Texas Education Agency for many years, and the institution has been named a Higher Performing School by the National Center for Educational Achievement; in addition, it was chosen as one of seven Texas finalists in the National Title I Distinguished Schools recognition program; and WHEREAS, By integrating character education into the traditional school curriculum, Kimberlin Academy for Excellence is providing its students with important instruction that will serve them well throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Kimberlin Academy for Excellence on its selection as a 2013 Texas State School of Character by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association and extend to its students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
