H.R. No. 1222 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Austen Whaley of Stephenville High School earned the highest honor a Texas music student can receive when he was selected as an All-State Band member in 2013; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Music Educators Association, the University Interscholastic League All-State Band program brings together talented young performers from across the state who have successfully competed at the regional and area levels; those who win the coveted recognition are invited to attend the TMEA clinic in San Antonio, where they perform in concert; and WHEREAS, Mr. Whaley was chosen from more than 400 students to become first chair alto saxophonist in the All-State Jazz Ensemble; a source of great pride to his parents, Lance and Patti Whaley, he has benefited from the guidance of Stephenville High School band director Michael Childs and Tarleton State University instructor Greg Ball; and WHEREAS, Austen Whaley has demonstrated admirable ability and discipline, and through his commitment to achieving his goals, he is preparing the foundation for a bright and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Austen Whaley of Stephenville High School on being named to the UIL All-State Band and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Whaley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
